Heart Can Be Visible 👨‍🚀

This week, I spent some time at the VA Hospital. During each visit, I pass a sculpture titled, “The Price of Freedom Is Visible Here,” by Rodger M. Broden. Since 1987, it has been a reminder of care –– of commitment, compassion, and the drive to help.

Bronze statues depict a soldier supporting an injured comrade with help from a female medic. Snowy ground, corrugated building in the background.

With Valentine’s Day here, I find myself thinking about heart in the sense of love, care, giving, and the ability to see outside of yourself. It’s also a symbol of unity and is essential for life. In the military, we all came from different backgrounds and perspectives, but we had each other’s back. To “never leave a soldier behind” took courage and heart. The recipients of the Purple Heart had both.

Levi’s elementary school has a focus on the heart this month –– not in the philosophical sense, but the physical. They’re doing the Kids Heart Challenge, which focuses on whole body well-being (health and character) while also raising money for the American Heart Association. The funds support research, education, community initiatives, and quality of care to fight heart disease. As it’s the leading cause of death in the US, we all know someone impacted by it. It strikes all ages. In the spirit of never leaving someone behind, I offer Levi’s link to donate. Every bit helps and each donation is another example of how your heart can be visible. Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

Smiling Jeff wishing all a beautiful Valentine's Day.
