When I was younger, I didn’t really think about time. Now, I’m constantly making decisions between spending time and spending money. At this point in my life, I guard my time and am thoughtful and strategic as to how I use it. This means sometimes I have to spend money, but that spending is more like an investment. I want to use my time do things that fit these questions:
1. Will the activity positively help my well-being, whether improving my physical or mental health, strengthening my relationships and connections with people, or improving my financial goals?
2. Will I learn something that can help me today or in the future?
3. Do I enjoy it? Am I helping someone?
4. Would my time be better spent doing something else? Does the activity fit someone else’s strengths and enjoyment?
5. Does the activity bring me closer and faster to my goals?
Rarely, do I spend time without earning a benefit. I don’t want to waste an hour, a minute, or even a second on things that don’t bring me gains. I’m not just talking about work or financial gains, but about things that help my family and me live a happy and healthy life. I want my time and money to be well spent and shrewdly invested.
